BD Current News Headlines>Bangladesh has not been freed from the curse of Farakka for fifty years - Tarique Rahman
Bangladesh has not been free from the curse of Farakka for the past 50 years. In the meantime, the Teesta river has also become a curse. However, the neighboring country is behaving unfriendly towards us by building dams upstream of the river regarding the water of the Teesta, said BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He made these remarks in his speech as the chief guest on the concluding day of a two-day sit-in program demanding the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan and a fair share of water at 5 pm on Tuesday, February 18, via video conference from London.
Tarique Rahman said, if the neighboring country does not give a fair share of water, if it does not agree to the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan, then we will have to find a way to survive. According to international law, the Teesta problem must be discussed in all international forums, including the United Nations. If the BNP gets the responsibility of running the state, it will implement the Teesta Master Plan on priority basis, rivers along the Teesta will be dredged and water storage and reservoirs will be built. The canal cutting project of the late President Ziaur Rahman will be started. The movement of the people of the Teesta banks to implement the Teesta River Master Plan will not go in vain. If BNP comes to power, Teesta will be solved. For this, your support is needed for BNP. Therefore, the current oath and slogan is Jago Bahe Save Teesta, Jago Bahe Save the Country. He also said that on August 5, during the mass uprising of the students and the people, the dictatorial murderer Hasina fled the country and took refuge in India. That dictatorial leader once said that India will remember what we gave to India for the rest of its life. What we see today, India is remembering the Awami League! But it did not remember the people of Bangladesh. India only took from us but did not give anything to Bangladesh. All the advantages, disadvantages, and problems that arise between neighboring countries of every country around the world are solved through discussion. All problems are resolved at the discussion table. Which is what we call diplomatic policy. However, the previous Awami League autocratic government had kept the River Protection Commission inactive to please India. Even though the Teesta agreement was not signed, the autocratic government has violated all norms and provided transit facilities. Now is the time, India should consider the people of Bangladesh as human beings and reconsider the various unjust unilateral agreements made with neighboring countries. Addressing the interim government, he said that the autocratic and murderous groups should not be rehabilitated due to any rash decision. For this, everyone should be careful and united as in the past. Some of the interim government got upset when they heard about the national elections from the democratic parties. The statements of each advisor at each time about the national elections paved the way for the murderers and mafia groups to create chaos in the country. For this, every democratic party has been repeatedly calling on this government to announce a roadmap. The closing ceremony of the 48-hour sit-in program on the banks of the Teesta River was presided over by the Chief Coordinator of the Teesta River Protection Movement Committee and BNP central leader Principal Asadul Habib Dulu, and BNP Standing Committee member Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed and local BNP leaders spoke. Earlier, as part of the 48-hour sit-in program on the banks of the Teesta River, a mass march began at around 11:30 am on Tuesday from the Teesta Rail Bridge Lalmonirhat point and ended at the Teesta Road Bridge at the Teesta Rail Bridge point.
Note: The 48-hour sit-in program on the banks of the Teesta River, the march, the public gathering and other programs began on Monday morning. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the program at points adjacent to the Teesta Railway Bridge in Rangpur and Lalmonirhat districts on Monday afternoon. Leaders of BNP and allied parties participated and spoke at other points. Programs were held under the slogan 'Jago Bahe-Save Teesta' at 11 places in Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram, Gaibandha, and Nilphamari demanding the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan and a fair share of water.
