Australia's record win in partnership with Care
The record for the highest team score in the Champions Trophy was broken twice in a few hours. Ben Duckett's record-breaking 165 helped England post 351. Australia surpassed that total with 15 balls to spare.
This is the highest chase victory in any ICC fifty-over tournament. The previous record was Pakistan's 345-run victory against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad in the 2023 World Cup.
Australia has only won by chasing more runs than this match once before. They won by 4 wickets against India in Mohali in 2019 after chasing 359.
The shock of losing several regular cricketers including the main three pacers Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, losing four consecutive ODIs, and being bundled out for 107 in the last match - Australia left everything behind to achieve a memorable victory.
The hero of this victory was Inglis. The keeper-batsman, who scored a 90-ball century on his Test debut against Sri Lanka last month, now reaches his first ODI century in just 77 balls, the joint-fastest in the Champions Trophy. He was named man of the match for his unbeaten 120 off 86 balls, which included 6 sixes and 8 fours.
While Inglis was the hero, Carey was the side-captain. After losing 4 wickets for 136, he and Inglis put on a 146-run partnership off 116 balls to bring the team back into contention. He played an innings of 69 runs off 63 balls, which included 8 fours. Although primarily a keeper, Carey took three catches in the outfield that day, one of which was a sight to behold.
Their partnership is the record for the fifth wicket in an ODI between Australia and England. The previous highest was 142 runs by England's Graham Thorpe and Robin Smith at Edgbaston in 1993.
